Party Report: RocknRolla Premiere
tiff canada, Toronto
(Sep.08.08)
The Film: RocknRolla is the latest film from Guy Ritchie. Set in London, it's the story of a real-estate scam, some notorious tough guys (Gerard Butler, Idris Elba), an established underworld player (Tom Wilkinson), and a host of others (Jeremy Piven, Ludacris,Thandie Newton) – all attempting to get rich quick.
The Partier: Stephania Varalli, Sweetspot's Editorial Director
The Party: Held at the Boiler House in the Distillery District, the cobblestone outdoor patio wasn't exactly a friend to high heels. But the stilettos and suits were out in full force for the event, hosted by TIME Style & Design (in association with Warner Brothers). The entire cast arrived post-screening and graciously worked the red carpet; and to my surprise, did not retreat to the VIP as soon as they entered the party. Instead they gathered at an outddoor patio section with a semi-secure couch perimeter, which became the unofficial epicentre of the universe. I spotted a friend who had magically worked their way inside, and decided that was the exact moment I had to go over and say hello (wouldn't want to be rude...). Sneaking in through a side slit in the couch-fort I became trapped in a corner - an embarrassing situation had it not been for a sweet gentleman sitting on said couch striking up a conversation. Legitimately inside the faux-VIP, I relaxed and chatted to Franco LiCastro, a Venezuelan trainer living in Montreal. He asked if I had met Jerry, and when I said no asked if I wanted to. I had no idea who Jerry was but being a polite gal said yes. So he taps some guy on the shoulder, I turn to my left, and shake hands with Gerard Butler (aka Jerry, aka hottest man who has ever touched me with his manly man hands). Turns out Franco was responsible for giving Gerard Butler his fine form for the movie 300.
I didn't have a chance to meet Guy Ritchie, attending without the Material Girl by his side, or Jeremy Piven, who seemed to have every girl by his side. (Although there was one particular blonde who seemed to be getting most of the attention, including a phone number exchange and a kiss on the lips... ). I did a whole lot more than just meet Gerard's co-star, Idris Elba, but you'll have to read about my adventures with him and his entourage in the After-After-Party report...
