Joe Fresh Spring/Summer 2012
See all of our Toronto Fashion Week runway reports.
I love Joe Fresh, but I'll admit, I walked into the show pretty certain of what I'd see: cute skirts and sweet dresses, ideal for a day at a country club or strolling in the Hamptons. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a flirty confection on the runway, but sometimes I hope for something a little...fresher, and to my delight, with his Spring/Summer 2012 collection, Joe delivered.
Pieces had matured beyond scouts and school girls, and in their place, chic outfits for a woman about town.
Cuts were clean, simple and slimming, on a white palette accented with striking colours like bright green, orange and yellow. Unique fabric choices like neoprene and delicate embroidery caught our eye and delighted the crowd (which was all a-twitter–on Twitter, no less), but had me wondering, has anyone out there ever actually worn neoprene? Regardless, the stiffness of the material was a wonderful contrast to the flowing skirts and sweet pleats that followed.
A few pieces, like a gaping (pardon our morbidity) body bag-esque dress in neon stunned us (in a weird way), but as a whole we were stunned — in the best way.
We especially loved the full, floor-length skirts in warm colours and the chic capri pants in an ultra sophisticated print. Plus, great accessories, like over-sized lucite necklaces, totes and great shoes (kitten heels and sky-high platforms) polished it off.
The collection showed that Joe Fresh has the ability to evolve and mature. We were happily proven wrong.
You go, Joe Joe!
