Who: Afshin Feiz
Whether or not designer Afshin Feiz was anxious for his upcoming show, he certainly didn’t show it as he calmly fitted his models and watched them glide through the crowded room. The designer’s composure was matched by the effortless beauty of his collection, which boasts a colour palette of pastels, eye catching ruffles and a surprisingly feminine use of silver chain. Talk about a calm, cool collection. (Show: Friday, Oct. 25, 8:00pm)
Describe your collection in one sentence: Inspired by Buddha’s Silent Sermon, my collection is about finding beauty in the simplest of things without a need for over-analysis.
What is a must have item for spring? A cocktail dress in pastel shades much like the ones seen in my Spring/Summer ’09 collection is definitely a must have this Spring - basically anything girly and flirty.
What is the biggest fashion crime you have seen lately? It seems to me that this “boho” fad that is happening right now is something that has been explored far too much. I love to show off the curves of a woman, and this look definitely does not emphasize the beauty that is the female form.
How long did the collection take, from idea to runway? This collection is something that has been an ongoing project for me for the past six months, however, I am revisiting an earlier theme of re-growth and love seen in my winter show from previous years. It was interesting for me to revisit this theme and see how my vision had shifted and grown since my first show in New York.
If you were not a fashion designer, what would you be? I think that I would still be doing something that nourishes my creative side, as I have always been a creative person. I would probably have been a painter or a photographer.
