Runway Report: Carlie Wong
lgfw '09 canada, Toronto
(Mar.21.09)
When we hear the name Carlie Wong, we instantly think wearable, feminine clothes with just a bit of edge. Sure enough, her Fall/Winter '09 collection was just that. With a palette of coal, cream, metallic gold and silver and forest green, we adored the cowl neck/racer-back tanks and dresses, damasque print cigarette pants and high-waisted skirts (not to mention the very daring silver lamé pieces). Gold rose print dresses are sexy, tight and guaranteed to get noticed, while cropped black bodices worn with bias-cut sleeveless blazers (they differ from just a vest-- really) made us think of Madonna circa "Vogue". But it was the gowns that were jaw-droppingly gorgeous. We loved one in emerald (complete with plunging neckline and gathered waist); and a one shouldered dress in black with a devastatingly bold slit was a definite showstopper.
