We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).
The inspiration: Is green polish the way to go this October? (When Chanel releases a limited-edition hue like "Jade" you know it's going to be on nails everywhere.)
The test:
This week's testers: Ashley Bennion, Sam Speisman and Ashleigh McKenna
The results:
Ashley B: I feel most comfortable in blacks and other dark colours so going for green was a little out of my comfort zone...
- Sally Hansen: Love the colour. The dark (almost forest) green is definitely closest to something I would normally wear. (And anything only needing one coat is a winner in my books.)
- OPI: Looks much better on than in the bottle. More like an apple green, I think this is the winner when it comes to trying to channel Chanel.
- China Glaze: Too light (yellow undertones maybe?) and shiny for my skin tone. Although it did dry the quickest, this wasn't for me.
- Nic's Sticks: The easiest to apply and a great colour (not too dark, not too light) although more blue than green.
Ashley B's Winner: I'd have to say it's a tie between Sally Hansen and OPI: I love the Sally Hansen colour but OPI best accomplished what we set out to do.
Sam: I typically go for generic colours: A dark purple in the winter or bright coral in the summer (that's where my colour spectrum starts and ends).
- Sally Hansen: Love it. I love the dark green colour, as well as the chiseled brush. A breeze to put on!
- OPI: I didn't like this one at all. The colour was too matte for me. I feel like if you're going to go green, there needs to be a shimmery girlie spin on it.
- China Glaze: Loved this one too. I liked that there was a bit of a shimmer to it. I think this is a definitely a colour for brunettes.
- Nic's Sticks: Thought this one was okay. I like the idea of a stick (and not having to keep dipping your brush), but I didn't like how many coats this one would require to get the full effect.
Sam's Winner: Sally Hansen takes the cake. Easy to apply, and a fabulous green. This one is definitely on my must-have for fall list!
Ashleigh M: I was stuck on brights this summer but switch to darks (like OPI Lincoln Park After Dark) and greys come fall (so going green is new territory)
- Sally Hansen: I loved everything about this one - from the ease of the wide applicator to the rich single coat and super-fast trying time.
- OPI: After expecting to hate it, I was pleasantly surprised by this rich apple shade. Loved that the finish was glossy (not glitter-y).
- China Glaze: Definitely my least fave (sorry Sam!). Like Ash, the yellow undertone clashed with my pale skin and even after two coats the colour still wasn't concentrated enough for my taste.
- Nic's Sticks: The pen-like brush is a snap. Teal turned out to be more blue than green though so it didn't really fit our goal.
Ashleigh's Winner: It's a close call but I have to give it to OPI for getting the bright green brilliantly (though don't think I'm not eyeing the Sally Hansen to take home!).
Thought that was sweet? You'll enjoy:
