We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).
Battle of the Blues
test lab: mavi boyfriend and skinny jeans canada
(Oct.09.09)

The inspiration: We wanted to see what boyfriend jeans and super skinnies looked like in the real world so we turned to Mavi's two styles (with price points that don't necessitate as much commitment as pricier pairs).
The test:
- Mavi Patti Ripped Used Sunday, $98
- Mavi Serena Rinse Super Stretch, $78
- Mavi Patti True Blue Tokyo, $118
This week's testers: Chantel Simmons, Ashley Bennion and Ashleigh McKenna

Patti Ripped Used Sunday: I'm definitely more used to wearing skinnies but in the spirit of the Test Lab decided to try something a little different. I love the comfort of the Patti (can definitely see these becoming my go-to weekend jeans) and the wash is one I don't already have. I like that these jeans can be casual (worn with flats, a white tee and cardigan) or would look great with a blazer for a more pulled-together (and really boyfriendy) look. The only thing I may alter (and thankfully, can at home) is "distressing" the jeans a tad more. |

Serena Super Stretch: I'm always on the hunt for the perfect pair of skinny jeans (ones that are flattering without cutting off my circulation) and I think I may have found them. I love how dark the wash is (super flattering!), thin the material is (no extra inches!) and stretchy they are (they stay up!). They're going to be perfect on my upcoming vacation, because I'll be able to wear flats and a T-shirt with them during the day and heels with a blazer at night. |

Patti True Blue Tokyo: Baggy pants haven't been my style since thinking I could pull off grunge in junior high. But boyfriend styles pique my interest (after all, I love the blazers) so I wanted to see if I felt stylish or shlumpy. A bit of both to be honest. At first glance I thought I should reserve these for weekends only but compliments and comfort getting used to them have me thinking they'll earn a much more regular rotation. |
