Test Lab
We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).

Where There's Smoke

test lab: smoky eyes canada (Oct.23.09)

The Inspiration:
While we'd like to call ourselves professionals in every area of life, the smoky eye is a feat we've never quite conquered. After Elise (our Marketing Co-ordinator and pro makeup artist) showed us how to properly create the look, we tested out the smoky eye ourselves to see how easy it really is.

The Product: Sephora Glitter Eyes, $49

This week's testers: Mia Shulman and Samantha Speisman

Did you find the instructions inside the pack helpful? I glanced over them briefly, but for the most part I tried to replicate what Elise did, and follow her guidelines and techniques. She had some great tips, like placing a tissue under your lower lash line to catch any powder that falls.
Overall Thoughts: I really liked this product, and while I tend to keep my makeup routine simple, I could see myself using this kit again for a big event. I especially liked the glitter mascara. It's a little out of the ordinary, but would be great for a holiday party. I would, however, use my own brushes because the ones provided were far too small and made it difficult to blend the eye shadow.

Did you find the instructions inside the pack helpful? I didn't even look at them. Once I had Elise's eye to work off of, I just followed her instructions. Although looking back and comparing Elise's instructions to the ones inside the Glitter Eyes pack, they are very similar.
Overall Thoughts: I think this is a perfect pack for the holidays. It comes with pretty much everything you would need to make your daytime look a little more dramatic, and with a concealer and blush (not included in the pack) you could easily get a great party look without having to carry around your entire makeup case. It wasn't ideal (a little too glittery for my tastes) but got the job done!
It was pretty easy to use, although the dual-ended brush it comes with is minuscule (so maybe bring your own brushes too).
