Test Lab
We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).

The Tight Stuff

test lab: black tights canada (Nov.06.09)

The inspiration:
We all have our favourites (though no one has been decadent enough to shell out for Worlfords…yet), and we wondered: Can cost be felt?

The test:

We cut out any labels, and replaced with coloured stickers, to get a truly blind test of:

  • Allude Classic Semi-Opaque tights, $8. Available at Shoppers Drug Mart
    • (85% nylon, 15% spandex, 40 denier)
  • Hue Opaque Tights, $16. Available at The Bay
    • (86% nylon, 14% spandex, 40 denier)
  • DKNY Opaque Tights, $25. Available at Holt Renfrew
    • (87% nylon, 13% spandex, 40 denier)

The testers: Kathleen Brown and Katharine Watts

The results:
Kathleen thinks low to high is: Orange, Green, Pink (pink was her favourite)
Katharine thinks low to high is: Orange, Pink, Green (green was her favourite)

Pink sticker

KB: These were my favourite. They felt really cosy and thick enough to protect me from a sudden snag (although, always a possibility).
KW: I really liked these ones, but because they cut into my waist, they weren’t my top pick.
pink is actually...Hue ($16)
KB: I go through tights too quickly to spend this every time but I really like them.
KW: That seems about right!

Green sticker

KB: These were comfortable on my legs but they ride so high!
KW: Once they were secured in place (by a couple of strategic squats) they were barely noticeable and quite comfortable (smooth and not too tight or saggy).
green is actually...DKNY ($25)
KB: I can’t justify it unless they’re made of gold.
KW: Not surprised, they were my favourite.

Orange sticker

KB: Kind of scratchy compared to the others I just had on.  I feel I might be one small move away from a run.
KW: These ones felt more like shapewear, I definitely couldn’t wear them all day (but am maybe just too tall?)
orange is actually...Allude ($8)
KB: I have others that I like better.
KW: Definitely not surprised.
