We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).

The Inspiration: Nars Blush in Orgasm is one of the brands most popular products (and a favourite of many on the sweetspot.ca staff) so when they released their new Orgasm Illuminator, we jumped at the chance to test it out, and see whether one tint really does fit all.
The Testers: Six Sweetspotters, of varied skin types, who bravely shared their “O” face.
The Results:
Elise: Elise, the resident sweetspot.ca makeup artist, is a huge fan of illuminators. She recommends applying the product to the apples of your cheek, or the highest plains of your face. She dabbed the product on with her fingertips, and blended for an even and smooth glow. Her only disappointment? She loves the colour of Orgasm blush, and wished there was more tint in the illuminator.
Megan: Megan has a darker skin tone, and wasn’t wearing any makeup to start. Elise applied it to Megan’s cheeks, and after two applications we noticed a natural-looking, dewy glow, and Megan loved how light it felt on her skin.
Sari: Sari has an olive skin tone (which looks luminous even without an illuminator). She liked the colour of the Nars product, and would use it as a blush, but wished it had more iridescence.

Brett: Brett has a fair skin tone, so the colour was much more visible and gave her glowing rosy cheeks. She found it a little difficult to blend with her fingers and would recommend using a sponge to apply it.
Monica: Feeling adventurous, Monica tried it as a lip gloss and it looked great. It gave her lips a lovely pearly shine.
Mia: Mia is very fair. She tried mixing the illuminator with her foundation, for an all-over glow, but found the tint too dark. She liked it much better as a blush; it really highlighted her cheekbones.
Final Thoughts (and tips!): Looks like our blush has some competition… We really liked the Nars Illuminator, and found it looked quite different on the varied skin types. On fair skin like Brett’s, it worked best as a blush, adding a warm colour to the apples of her cheeks. On darker skin tones, like Megan’s, it highlighted and gave a luminous glow. Elise recommends the product for normal to dry skin tones, noting that it will only add more shine to the face, which isn’t ideal for oily skin types. We also suggest getting creative, like Monica. Try it on your décolletage, or even as an eye shadow, and let us know the results!
