We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).

The inspiration:
Our team feels pretty confident with at-home nail care, but we all agree we need a little extra help when it comes to the sophisticated French manicure.
The test: Bourjois Paris, French Manucure, $10. Available at Shoppers Drug Mart
The tester: Mia Shulman, sweetspot.ca copy editor
The results: I consider myself an accomplished at-home manicurist, but have never attempted a French manicure figuring they're best left to the professionals; it takes accuracy and a steady hand to make equal tips on each nail. With the promise of an easy at-home French Manicure, thanks to the curved brush by
Bourjois Paris, I was happy to take on the challenge.
I started with clean, filed nails, and applied a base coat. Once that dried, I painted one side of the tip of my nail using the side of the angled brush, and then flipped the brush to finish the other side. The great thing about the brush was that it's quite thin, so I was able to use the end of it for a second layer to even out the first two swipes and hide mistakes.
It took a bit of practice, but by my seventh finger, I was having fun with it and my nails looked pretty chic, if I may say so myself. I finished the manicure with a coat of
So Laque Ultra Shine Polish in Rose Lounge and a top coat, and the results were, well,
tres magnifique!
