We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).

The inspiration: The new True Match Roller from L'Oréal looked like a miniature painting tool at first glance. Could it really provide even, luminous coverage?
The testers: Mia Shulman and Samantha Speisman
The product: L'Oréal True Match Roller, $19. Available at mass-market retailers and drugstores.
The results:
Mia: The foundation went on smoothly and felt light on my skin, but I still had to use my fingers to blend out the edges where the roller left off. I'm also concerned about how long I can continue to use the roller before the makeup and bacteria build up and it becomes unhygienic. I'd pass on the roller, but would purchase L'Oréal foundations, or eventually swap out the roller and use a brush or makeup sponge.
Samantha: I agree with Mia. I thought the actual product was great; the foundation felt light and gave great coverage, but the brush was difficult to use. Getting into the contours of the face with a straight-edged roller was extremely tough. I'd suggest using the foundation with a brush or a triangle sponge for even coverage. One thing I do really love about the product is the packaging. The entire bottom of the compact is a mirror (and a pretty large one) so you can see exactly what you're doing.
