We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).

test lab: natural deodorantscanada

Day One: Green Beaver Deodorant in Wild Yam ($6) vs. Kiss My Face Active Enzyme Deodorant Scented ($7)
I’ve been tasked (OK, so I volunteered) to test a series of natural deodorants for Test Lab so I arrive at the office pristine armpits. Like many, I worry about the aluminum content in most deodorants and antiperspirants, so I see this test as a worthy cause.
Mia and I carefully examine our samples and set a few ground rules:
1. I will only try these on days when I don’t have an event. Let’s face it, they don’t have the best reputation and I can’t risk stinking when I’m representing sweetspot.ca in public.
2. I will not put patchouli on my person. Patchouli reminds me of dorm rooms, second hand stores and head shops. Can’t. Do. It.
I go with stick deodorants to start. I make it through most of the day without any obvious odours, though my armpits feel sticky even hours after the application. I will admit to taking more frequent whiffs than normal (as in, I don’t usually whiff myself).
By the end of the day, I do feel a bit… un-fresh. But I’m going home; it’s all good. Then I get hit on by an older man on the bus ride home. Are my hidden pheromones being unleashed to the world? Let’s see what happens on Day Two…
Winner: It’s a draw. Both sticky, both didn’t do much to cover my odour for long. At this point, I’m not trading in my Dove or Secret…
