We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).

Day Three: I bust out the Secret (for a fancy book launch). I can’t see @AlisonBurke tonight if I’m emanating fumes.
Day Four: Dr. Hauschka Deodorant Floral ($25) vs. Byly Sensitive Silk ($7)
I decide to give the Dr. Hauschka another try (I’m a big fan of most of their products) and pin it against Byly Sensitive Silk. Though not officially “natural” (it contains the antibacterial agent Triclosan), Byly is aluminum-free. Sometimes, making consumer choices in the chemical-free realm means a bit of a trade-off.
I completely forget that I’m not wearing my usual brand of deodorant during the day. I smell different, but pleasant. Like a field of flowers, the real kind. The Byly works best, but I can’t get past the Triclosan element.
I don’t break much of a sweat editing copy, if I’m honest, but I liked both of these options enough to skip my regular stuff for the next few days. I didn’t get hit on again, but my husband asked me on a date. Unscientific for sure, but there was enough anecdotal evidence for natural deodorants to get my approval (much to my colleagues’ dismay).
Winner: Dr. Haushka. Am I converted? Not totally. I don’t think they’d stand a chance on a humid Toronto day. But on cool days with long sleeves, I think I’ll opt for Dr. Hauschka’s soothing floral formula.
Have you tried natural deodorants? What’s your experience been? Is there a brand I should have tried that I missed?
