We love new products, trends and tips but ever wondered about wearing them in real life? Each week we’ll take on a test drive, from the newest nail colour, to playing with perfume or seeing how long that hairstyle actually takes and share what we find (sweet, not-so-sweet and everything in between).
Testing Blush Brushes
test lab: blush brushes canada
(Feb.11.11)

The inspiration: It doesn't matter how much you spend on a blush, if you're using a bad makeup brush, you might as well be applying finger paint on your cheeks. In pursuit of the very best blush brush, Emma tested five of varying prices and materials. Here's what she thought of them:
|

|
Brush #1: Sephora Collection I.T. Angeled Natural brush, $42. Available at www.sephora.com.
The extremely tapered handle made it easy to find the right grip for my hand.
It picked up an average amount of powder and felt super-soft. It distributed powder evenly, in a nice wash of colour. I'd definitely continue using this brush.

|
Brush #2: Bella Blush Brush, $5. Available at www.zellers.ca.
The brush fit nicely in my hand but picked up quite a bit of powder. I'd recommend giving it a good tap before applying.
The brush felt a little rough on my cheek (but keep in mind it's natural fibers, as opposed to synthetic).
This brush would be great for precision sculpting with bronzer or for highlighting because it gives a very precise sweep.

Brush #3: Nars Blush Brush, $73. Available at The Bay, Holt Renfrew and Sephora.
The straight handle made it a little tricky to find a good resting spot for my hand. Also, like the Bella Brush, it picked up quite a bit of powder.
The brush felt light and smooth and applied the powder evenly. However, the finer tip meant I had to apply a second sweep of colour.
I’d continue using this brush as a highlighter.

Brush #4: Quo Blush Brush, $17. Available at www.shoppersdrugmart.ca.
The handle had a really good shape but it was a little on the heavy side. It picked up an average amount of powder though, and the brush felt soft and dense on my cheek.
It distributed powder evenly and I was really happy with it. It’s definitely one to keep in the beauty bag.

Brush #5: Elegant Faces, $16. Available at www.elegantfaces.com.
The thick handle looked cumbersome but felt really well balanced in my hand. It picked up a small amount of powder and the brush was super soft. It uses natural fibers and you can tell a lot of bristles are packed into this brush.
The shape made applying the powder exactly where I wanted it easy and I’d definitely continue using it.
