Culturites have never been known as “assets in the kitchen,” yet recently we’ve been inspired by the many easy gourmet resources at our fingertips and have decided to give a kick at the domestic can.
Much to our surprise…the outcome has been quite positive. We started with the basics: soup and salads with a little gourmet twist, and have slowly graduated to more advanced recipes like Moroccan Spiced Chicken and homemade pizza dough. Some of our favourite sources are below:
The Sprouted Kitchen
Ashleigh’s fiancé, the health nut that he is, discovered this site and has used the sharp imagery as inspiration to get her in the kitchen. Culturites are very visual so the pictures help to get us motivated for the final outcome. Recipes are mostly vegetarian---using a variety of fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit and whole grain combos.
Two Dishes
This cookbook was given to us by one of our members, and co-author of the book, Devin O’Connell, who also happens to be the founder of the newly opened Delica Kitchen (Culturites are addicted to the homemade oreo cookies). It gives mother and daughter’s distinctive takes on a similar theme: one using timeless techniques, the other embracing an improvisational, budget-conscious approach. We’ve tried many of the recipes---each one more impressive than the previous. Some of our regulars include the Rustic Tomato Soup, Blueberry Oatmeal Scones and the grilled brussel sprouts.
Dinner Belle NYC
Caterers by trade, these two culinary queens are always whipping up the most delicious menus for our NYC parties. We used them so much that the belles have become permanent dinner party resources when our members need consultations on what to cook that’s fast, easy and impressive. If hiring them to cater your party isn’t a need, then check their site regularly for inspiration. You can also email the girls directly for a prepared dinner menu (with recipe list)----trust us, the small fee is worth it when you see the looks of amazement on your guests' faces!
