The Society Cup

(Aug.26.10)
The Society was thrilled to host the first annual Society Cup, presented by Tretorn. Set against the scholastic tapestry of The University of Toronto’s Hart House, members were ushered into a secluded courtyard via an ivy-laden overpass, illuminated by candle-lit lanterns. The "pitch" was divided into quadrants, each sporting a different gaming station: bocce ball, badminton, croquet, and the mad-dash potato sack race.
The competition commenced in a rather demure fashion (let’s not forget that participants were all dressed in their best whites!) but as the evening wore on and The Society Cup gleamed tauntingly from its regal post at the centre of the pitch, rivalries began to heat up. Oh, and did we mention that all members of the winning team were treated to a free pair of Tretorn sneakers? Prepsters were powerless to resist.
Thirsts were quenched and palettes refreshed with a fully-stocked bar overflowing with beverages. As night descended, the lawn was transformed into a dance floor with a repertoire of throwback tunes blasting from the BELLOSOUND DJ booth (with a special guest set by design duo Stephen Wong & Kirk Pickersgill of Greta Constantine). To end the night, gaming participants waited with baited breath as the victorious team was announced and then burst into spontaneous celebration.
Congratulations to all athletic participants and to everybody that came out to support what is sure to become a mainstay in the annual culturite calendar!
