On Tuesday May 10th, some of Canada’s finest artistic talent came out in full force to celebrate the second instalment of The Society & ABSOLUT Art Series, dubbed “The Art of Fashion”. The evening featured the brand new capsule collection from designer Alana Ka’kia, a graduate of the Paris-based Parsons School of Art and Design, aptly titled Ka’kia. Alana has spent the past few years designing for the prestigious contemporary line Haute Hippie, as well as styling for some of music’s hottest acts, including Kid Cudi and Metric. The Society was thrilled to be the first in the world to showcase this new and exciting line and feature its up-and-coming designer as an artist to watch!
Ka’kia also played muse to Metric’s Jimmy Shaw, who was inspired by the new line and created a special musical piece specifically for the label. While sipping classic ABSOLUT cocktails, such as dirty vodka martinis and Caesars, guests were treated to an incredible musical performance by Jimmy along with The Stills’ David Hamelin and Liam O’Neil. The stocked ABSOLUT & Perrier bar was not the only thing flowing though; DJ Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene also made sure that the tunes jammed all night long as he spun everything from indie rock to vintage hip hop.
