Members of The Society NYC were recently whisked uptown in SUVs (while listening to curated beats courtesy of member DJ Brendan Fallis) to Harlem for the fourth installment of our Urban Txikiteo series.
What’s a Txikiteo you might ask? It is a time honored pre-dinner ritual in the Basque Country of Northern Spain. Think of it as a refined, yet rambunctious, bar tour! For this year’s event, we hit Rodney T. Leonard’s African art-filled private salon where he treated our members to a personalized tour of his extensive collection featuring local and international pieces from places like Congo and Liberia.
Following that, the crew was whisked away to some of Rodney’s local favourites including Red Rooster (also acclaimed favourite of President Obama) and classic cocktail establishment 67 Orange. Served at each location were specialty Zacapa drinks: the Harlem Honey Bee, Sorrel Rum Punch and Old Fashioned Cocktails.
“Seeing our members take in the cultivated collection and comfort of Rodney’s private space, the delectable Red Rooster cuisine and the clandestine feeling of 67 Orange, it was evident that guests thoroughly delighted in traversing the Harlem streets while partaking in our cultural crawl”. - Katie Shipp
"This was our 4th edition of The Society Urban Txikiteo Series and I have to say it was my all time favourite! Having the chance to experience Harlem's hidden haunts, sipping delicious Zacapa cocktails and indulging in the braised short ribs at Red Rooster (Obama's favourite dish) was a night out that definitely had guests talking around the water cooler the next day!" - Annie Evans
