About May Globus
Vancouver City Editor May Globus is obsessed with the sartorial and all that surrounds it: art, design, culture, music and film. Oh, and she really likes writing about it, too. A left coast girl at heart, her Sweetspot finds just might show why the westside really is the best side.

I've always been in awe of girls who carry off vintage with such flawlessness and aplomb.
These are the girls who comb the racks at the nearest Salvation Army, Value Village, Decades (the chicest vintage emporium in L.A.) and Deluxe Junk (right here in our fair city), picking up '70s-era Cacharel dresses to pair with skinny belts or Edwardian lace blouses to tuck into skinny JBrands.
I truly believe it's an innate gift to do any of the above, and even more so of a gift to actually make pieces decades-old seem so fashion-forward.
But for someone like me, vintage can often be dicey (have you tried fitting into a size two from 1945?), but since I'm not opposed to owning something with history, I've been happy about discovering a few local businesses and events that carry either new or gently used items looking for another loving owner.
First, there are local fashion vets (and best friends) Danielle Ow and Marjolyn Ustaris, who had found themselves in a sartorial dilemma: piles of clothes and accessories that didn’t get the TLC they deserved, a problem (in quotation marks, because a girl can never have too much in her wardobe!) that led to their launch of Once Loved Threads.
Their online shop carries new to gently-used items on the cheap, from a Coach wristlet to an Obey fitted pencil skirt to a pair of Nike Vandal low-tops (practically a steal at $34.99 plus shipping). The duo also holds their annual Frock Swap, meaning swappers bring six items to trade for free with others (all leftovers go to WISH Women's Shelter).
Secondly, Vancouver Is Awesome's fearless leader -- and extremely talented graphic designer, filmmaker and artist -- Bob Kronbauer held his first V.I.A. Flea Market this long weekend, where friends and fellow V.I.A. contributors (which happens to include yours truly!) sold guys and gals' goods like O'Neill wetsuits, OGIO daypacks, random art, camera equipment, tees, baby goods (courtes of Arlo, Bob K's adorable little munchkin) and skate paraphernalia.
The event was such a hit, Bob K plans to make it a regular end-of-the-month event, so stayed tuned to my blog and What's Happening Guide for more who, what, when and where's!
