Upon Reflection

If there's one thing I love about the new year, it's resolution writing because we get to that much-needed chance to reflect.

Although I suppose that mulling over milestones, lessons, failures and triumphs and what we've learned from each should be an ongoing practice, and not polarized to a new year's beginning, looking back on everything in early January brings the year full circle.

As I reflect back on Sweetspot and this city editor blog in 2011, my belly feels warm with happiness. I got to share my weekend at Cornucopia Wine Fest this past November, tell you all about meeting Chef James Walt at the Araxi Long Table Series in August and gush about learning to fly a Cessna plane in September. I got to share beauty and skin tips from Dermalogica's Dr. Diana Howard and list off my favorite booties to buy for fall. Oh, and I got to meet David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone, who both gamely took a high school prom-esque picture with me and two girlfriends (whilst I wore a bodycon dress of their making!).

And also in those last 365 days, Sweetspot launched The Daily Squeeze, which is now SweetFit and helmed by one of our lovely editors, Samantha.

So perhaps instead of making a few Sweetspot resolutions, I'll make this pledge to our dear Vancouver (and beyond!) readers instead: in 2012, I promise to continue to share the best stories this city has to offer, from new places to have a bite and libation to shops that carry cool, little-known clothing labels to art exhibitions worth browsing on a Sunday afternoon.

Here's to a fantastic new year and, of course, to you for reading and sharing our stories.
