The easiest way to reach Lago de Atitlan is through Guatemala City (4 hours) or Antigua (3 hours). Taking local transit (or chicken buses) is also an option, though not for the faint of heart. Think school buses packed to the gills and adults sitting three to a seat. We recommend taking a shuttle bus for a smooth and comfortable ride. Most tour operators in Guatemala run shuttles anywhere in the country. The cost to get to the lake is US $22 (from Guatemala City) and US $15 (from Antigua).
