Montreal Fashion Week, Day Two
montreal musings Montreal
(Mar.03.10)
Day Two started with a bang as Coccolily debuted at fashion week. The most engaging show thus far, the models stomped down the runway to the beats of M.I.A. and Tiesto and seemed to truly enjoy themselves.

Vintage lace was everywhere, from underwear to outerwear, and clothes were flirty and fun. Corsets were paired with full skirts, sexy stockings, ladylike gloves – and sometimes little else. (The model in pasties is Tia from CNTM.)

The collective gasp from the crowd nearly sucked the air from the room, but the huge applause at the end shows she hit the right nerve with her audience.
I met with designer Naana Tennachie Yankey after the show and was won over by her enthusiasm and humble attitude. Pictured here with Naana and myself is makeup artist, Charlotte Marie, who did the research for the show and worked on her campaign. (She’s also my sister – never would've guessed, eh?) Naana was inspired by the royal court of 17th and 18th centuries and confessed to watching a lot of the Tudors. Can you say instant rapport?
Dinh Ba was all about Rock & Roll, with lots of silver, slashed skirts and heavy styling. Remarketing his brand for a confident, self-assured woman, an edgier, tougher personal was revealed. Ripped tights and lots and lots of leggings. Textured fabrics were mostly silver, black and grey, with funky appliqués thrown in the mix. A much sexier collection for Dinh Ba.

Eve Gravel had the requisite leggings (adorned with paillettes) and an 80's rock vibe but also showed plenty of sweet dresses and lace.

I always love her collections because the designs are accessible and contemporary with a touch of whimsy. I’m feeling Alice in Wonderland below... (any excuse to think of Johnny Depp.)
