Montreal Fashion Week, Day Three
montreal musings Montreal
(Mar.04.10)
Small confession: today’s runway report is a mixture of Days Two and Three. There is a method to my madness; I like to combine shows with similar themes. (And I need to get some shuteye.)
And these shows pair brilliantly. They’re all about drama: glitter and gowns, exotic locales, and saluting the death of a legend.
Let’s start with Jean Yves Lacasse of ENVERS, that couture designer of lush fabrics and ethnic designs. Last season we took a trip to Russia; this time he drew his inspiration from just further south, the hills of Mongolia.

To truly enhance the collection, he partnered with prominent milliner Elaine Saucier to crown his models with her fabulous felt hats.

Even if I never have the occasion to wear one of his remarkable creations, I don’t care. His shows are always a treat for the eyes. (And that tan cape seems perfectly accessible.)
His show was followed by designer Judith Desjardins who delivered two collections with a nod to Britain (a continuous source of inspiration) and to one Brit in particular, Alexander McQueen.
BODYBAG by Jude combined two trends I’ve observed this week, lace and bodysuits. And of course, no show would be complete without her signature grey plaid.

Then J.U.D.E (Justified Unique Design Experience) gave homage to Alexander McQueen’s 2006 collection, one of the most stunning presentations of his career. (Though also rather grotesque.)

Day Three opened with jewellery from everyone’s favourite Danish émigré, Camilla Jorgensen. While Micalla’s last show was all about Burlesque, this time it was a visit to Old Hollywood. Using less stones and more crystals than her last collection, I was nearly reaching for my sunglasses to get a better look at the designs.

Elaborate necklaces, bracelets and medallions graced the appendages of both men and women. This crystal tunic was the show’s finale. Talk about drama.
