Bright blue skies, warm, dry weather, tasty buffet and Beringer wines on tap: Couldn’t have asked for a better way to catch the women’s quarter finals at the Rogers Cup last Friday.
Courtesy of the folks at IRIS, I was invited to spend the afternoon taking in a few matches in the comfort of their loge. As one of the platinum sponsors, we were right in the middle of Centre Court and the view was incredible. And so too was the view inside the box – Luxe Rentals furniture, from the looks of it. Very sleek.
Compared to last year’s visit, where I was glued to the action, this year I found myself more engaged by the individuals passing through the loge (including top Canadian player Aleksandra Wozniak, seen here with IRIS owner Éric Babin).

I arrived in time for lunch and hit the well-catered buffet. (I ended up missing dessert by accident – too much gabbing. Probably a good thing.) After lunch we fancied a stroll so we hit the main shopping and eating areas. I don’t remember seeing this stall last year. I love shopping, but Ogilvy’s at a tennis open? Never would have made the connection.
Naturally IRIS had a section filled with their collection of Maui Jim’s and high-end frames. In fact, Maui Jim has only recently begun selling their polarized lenses with Coach and Fendi frames, and the combination makes for a pretty awesome pair of sunglasses (also available with prescription).
Given the blazing sunshine, a much more reasonable match.
