Good Cause? Great Causes

Yesterday was a bit nippy (I won’t make the mistake of leaving my hat at home again), but in general we’re all feeling the call of spring, loud and clear. And with spring there are a whole slew of events, parties and festivities to look forward to. So why not let the sun shine in and open your heart to a good cause at the same time?
I was invited to the unveiling of the theme for this year’s “Eyes Wide Open” fundraiser for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The theme is Geisha – a sublime masked soirée (insert fond memories of reading Memoirs of a Geisha here. And if you didn’t read it, get thee to a library, post-haste.) With lychee martinis and avocado sushi floating around the room, we were given a taste of the mysterious evening to come. Several models helped us get into the spirit, with authentic clothing and hairstyles (or lack of them).
Denim & Diamonds is another must-attend event and the plans for this year’s party are well under way. Organized by the Young Adult Division of Hope and Cope, a non-profit, psychosocial support organization for cancer patients and their families, the evening aims to raise awareness for young adults with cancer while funding these crucial support services.
Let the warmth and spirit of spring inspire you. We can’t let this financial doom and gloom keep us from caring for fellow Montrealers. Try to give to at least one cause this year, or volunteer your time. Every bit counts.
