We may have bailed on our 2008 New Year’s resolutions (really, who gives up coffee?), but this year we’re making one we’ll definitely keep: spending the first week of 2009 on a stunning beach in Mexico, eating gourmet food, enjoying daily yoga and getting regular massages.
Ready to make the same commitment to self-betterment?
Rise Yoga Retreat runs from January 3-10 in Haramara, Mexico, an exclusive retreat centre on the East coast of Mexico. This secluded colony of palm-hatched cabanas is nestled into a picture-perfect spot between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre mountains; backed by volcanic highlands, lakes and rivers, it looks out over miles of pristine beaches.
The retreat is organized by Mara Branscombe, a Vancouver-based yoga teacher whose classes are in hot demand among West Coasters. Branscombe will lead two daily yoga sessions and a morning meditation inside an open-air pavilion (with 360-degree views of the ocean and mountains). The classes, as well as accommodation and three meals per day, are all included in the price ($1,795 if booked before Nov.1, $1,950 after).
Rather than moaning about our New Year’s hangovers, we’ll be finding some inner balance – with plenty of free time for whale watching, hiking, surfing, jungle touring and loafing about on the beach.
Now there’s a resolution worth sticking to.
