Les Enfants Terribles

Brasserie Les Enfants TerriblesMontreal (Jul.24.08)

We haven't had a proper summer evening meal at a trendy neighbourhood boîte since BC (Before Children). Jul24_SMMon_LesEnfants_220x153.jpgLes Enfants Terribles, a new hot spot on Bernard Street in Outremont, finally makes it easy for us to enjoy French gastronomy with all generations. (Out goes fast food, in comes pasta with wild mushrooms and hamburgers smothered in goat cheese).

Opened earlier this summer, the brasserie offers the perfect marriage between hip, trendy and family-friendly. A place to see and to be seen on the terrace (and by many), owner Francine Brûlé wanted to develop a concept that would welcome the entire family in a homey environment. The spacious, rustic interior with cedar tables and simple décor made us feel like we were sitting in our own dining room (except we didn't have to lift a finger).

Tables are placed far enough from each other to allow for easy stroller navigation and toddlers eager to try out those new walking skills. (Yes, they get it!) Plus the menu offers kid-friendly items (without a chicken nugget in sight). French toast with raspberries and chantilly cream ($8) was a big hit with our tykes.

For once we didn't mind eating the leftovers on their plates.
