Let’s face it: When you have kids, something’s got to give. For some of us, it’s the shoe budget. For others, it’s more than that. So intent are we to entertain, stimulate and nurture those little minds, our own threaten to go to mush.
That’s why we were thrilled with the recent program additions at Art Strollers. Launched last summer, we love this kid-friendly way to take in art, culture and even awaken our own creativity (turns out it’s as sleep-deprived as we are). The Creative Mornings program ($8 for mother and child, $25 for a four-week pass) offers over-Treehoused mothers a chance to paint and draw with their children in an actual Distillery District art gallery.
Artistically inclined or not, it’s impossible not to take inspiration from the surroundings. The best part? When our little muse moves on from painting, a caregiver is on hand to keep him occupied. And before we call it a morning, we visit a gallery or two en masse to fuel future projects.
Founder Veronica Roux-Vlachova also offers museum tours ($32.50) and workshops on everything from photography to creating great art ($10 and up), all designed for moms and their kiddos.
Sure, our outings inject a little culture into their lives. But it’s nice to feel like we’re the raison d’être for a little while.
