We often wish we’d thought of “that” (insert genius parent-created business idea here), but we have a hard enough time remembering to recycle.
So we were thrilled when Peter and Peggy -- parents of two -- told us they were taking their popular online store, InquisitiveKid.ca, to an actual storefront. Their carefully curated collection of natural wooden toys, handmade dolls and nifty furniture makes the perfect addition to the tony Av and Dav neighbourhood.
We love the play area in the back, complete with a gorgeous Swiss-made play kitchen ($485) and a BB2 table and chair set ($552). While the kids played house, we shopped for extras like adorable German wooden fruits ($4-10), veggies ($4-10.50) and even eggs in a carton ($14.50). Soft candy-coloured felt slippers ($58) from Sweden had us longing for adult sizes; Skittles’ natural birch bowling set ($33) made us consider starting a kiddie league.
Mini rocking cube stools ($484) provide ergonomic seating for little tushies. Unique to the store, painted canvasses by John Tierney ($2100 and up) stimulate little minds while looking stunning over a fireplace or dining table.
We left feeling inspired and invigorated by the scent and feel of real, heirloom quality toys. (Though we think we’ll leave the business ideas to inquisitive grown ups.)
