Gorgeous. Natural. Sleek. Original. Abstract. Unique.
As much as we’d like to be talking about ourselves, we’re assigning adjectives to the items we love at Bookhou. We’ve long admired their work at shows around the city; but with the opening of a storefront in Toronto’s West end, we can finally enjoy the entire experience under one roof.
Designers/store-owners John Booth and Arounna Khounnoraj have collaborated since 2003. We love the way their handmade, natural aesthetic includes furniture, home décor, bags and stunning baby items.
The maple veneer Flock Mobile ($160) sends our hearts all a-flutter. And we can’t imagine a tweeter… er… sweeter cuppa than from underneath their linen and cotton bird decal Tea Cosie ($45). The Trees Storage Box ($35) has grown on us – and who (whoo!) wouldn’t love the organic cotton, hand-printed, original drawing Owl Softie ($20)?
We’re excited not only about seeing where the magic happens – but how it happens with Bookhou’s Surface Printing Classes ($120). In a one-day workshop we can learn to print on paper or fabric items, exploring different techniques that are easy to do at home.
We can only hope our own attempts at creation come moderately close to the in-store wonders.
