Hands Up for Handmade

There’s something about the wet, cold winter weather of winter that makes us crave comfy, cozy homemade things (the holidays are over, so we’re not talking home-baked apple pies).

We love the idea of providing our kids with simpler, more natural toys. Whipstitch Backstitch has created a line of adorable and imaginative handcrafted stuffed animals ($24.95-$39.95) – perfect for a good snuggle session on a frosty night.

From Owls and Seahorses to Songbirds and Whales, these plush playmates will warm the heart of any child. Knowing they are stuffed with Ecofill and individually made using vintage and recycled fabrics warms our hearts too.

Just like grandma’s pie, the secret ingredient in these delicious little critters is good ol’ lovin’. This gang of fabric friends is the creation of Emily Carr University of Art + Design student Lauren Selden. Her passion for sewing and textiles is evident in every hand stitch that lovingly assembles these whimsical toys. Best of all, each critter is born in a place called Pleasantside (it doesn’t get more homey than that).

The handmade movement is here, and we’re climbing aboard.
