We’ve scoured our beautiful corner of the province for the four best family-friendly campgrounds a reasonable drive away from the Big Smoke. (All Ontario Parks campsite rentals range between $30-$46 and can be booked through www.reservations.ontarioparks.com)
Best for Cautious Campers: Bronte Creek Provincial Park
There’s a slice of nature tucked between Oakville and Burlington, so you can experience true camping, while close to civilization in case the tiny ones have a meltdown (Tim Horton’s is refreshingly close). A great play barn and huge wading pool round out the options.

Best for Beauty: Awenda Provincial Park
Bordering beautiful Georgian Bay, Awenda boasts spectacular views, unique beaches and owl prowls (for the Hedwig fans). Lots of wildlife and educational programming provide plenty of non-beach activities. Be sure to share a family moment over the amazing sunsets.

Best for a Bit of Everything: Mikisew Provincial Park
Located on beautiful, clean Eagle Lake, this park has three great sandy beaches and a fun playground. A boat launch nearby makes water sports a possibility or enjoy canoeing to the rocky islands, complete with loon sightings. A fantastic burger and ice cream bar right outside the park makes for a special lunch.

Best for Biking Buds: Silent Lake Provincial Park
With nature trails that have been graded for mountain biking, the little daredevils will lead you in a great workout. Non-bikers can take the trail on foot, or rent a canoe, complete with a much-needed swim in the pristine, shallow beaches at the end. Rainy days are best combatted with a trip to Kawartha Dairy nearby in Bancroft.
