While we love camping, not all campgrounds are created equal – especially when you have kids in tow. Luckily, a short drive outside the city limits will have you pitching a tent (for $18-$30 per night) at some great places to get back to nature.
Rolley Lake Provincial Park
Flush toilets, showers, sandy beach, playground, what more could you want? This little-known gem is about an hour from Vancouver (near Mission) and also offers kid-friendly hiking trails, including one leading to a small bridge and a waterfall.

Alice Lake Provincial Park
A small lake with an easy-to-hike trail around it, two beaches, and a concession stand. With all the amenities (including showers and power), it’s also a quick drive into Squamish to replenish your supplies if needed (or, you know, pick up a latte).

Alouette Campground
Just a few minutes outside of Maple Ridge, this spot in Golden Ears Provincial Park is packed with a fun playground, an open field, showers, and gorgeous mountain views on the rocky beach. Canoe rentals are also available just down the road and there are lots of hiking trails to explore.

Nairn Falls Provincial Park
If you’re looking for something a little more rustic, this paradise north of Whistler fits the bill. There’s no playground and only pit toilets, but this is one of our annual must-dos, mostly for the gorgeous walk along the river to an incredible waterfall.
