Machine Queen

Vancouver (Sep.11.08)

We've always thought how nice it would be to create one-of-a-kind outfits for our little ones, but inexperience and a creative drought have left our needles a little dull -- until now.

This fall, local designer and mom Heather Young is teaching Sewing and Fabric Painting for Babies and Toddlers ($112 for session) at Gladstone Secondary courtesy of the Vancouver School Board. Okay, so it's been awhile since we worked our magic with a needle and thread, but with some expert tips and ideas we can restore our machines to their former glory (no longer to be used as a bookend on the basement shelf).

Over six classes, Young will teach us how to pick the right patterns and the best way to turn our fashion visions into works of wearable art for our babes. We'll also learn to customize our creations with fabric painting. (Can we say, "runway potential?")

Now we have a great excuse to hide away in the sewing room for hours and hours (fashion takes time).
