Cooking as a family used to mean we’d do all the stirring, pouring and measuring while the little ones waited around to lick the bowl and batter blenders (raw eggs or not).
Now they’re mixing up meals as mini chefs with the Atelier Petit Chef, a new offering from the completely redesigned Cuisine Gourmet. Sure, they might come up with something like tuna and raisins, but we can always use a sous-chef.
A colourful, state-of-the-art mini kitchen at the back of the store acts as the classroom where they’ll learn the basics in a simple and fun fashion ($5-$45/session). We’re signing up for P’tit Four ($20, $70/four), an after-school program from 4:15pm-5:45pm (leaving us the perfect amount of time to check out the professional cooking products and gourmet shop). Next thing we know, out mini chefs are armed with healthy recipes to bring home (that still satisfy their sometimes picky palettes). And the drop-in friendly Mini Atelier ($5) is a perfect half-hour weekend distraction.
Soon we’re going to be the ones licking the bowl.
