Maybe I’m a bad parent to begin with, jet-setting with my family but skimping on the extra seat fare for our baby and opting to have him fly in our laps instead (or in a spare seat on the plane, if we can find one). But I still feel better having my little one strapped into a Baby B’Air Flight Vest.

The safety harness fits like a life jacket over your baby’s head and tethers to your seatbelt, giving your wee one a little space to manoeuvre and you a hands-free break—especially handy for single parent travellers. Though I felt a little shy bringing it out after takeoff (some airlines might not let you use it during takeoff, taxi or landing), it was a relief to strap my active boy in and let him jump and play, knowing he wouldn’t be able to fall down or crawl away. It’s also nice to know that should any turbulence disrupt your flight, your most prized possession won’t have far to go. Best of all? You get to skip the child wrestling required to keep your baby in your lap. Everyone wins!

As for specifics, the Baby B’Air Flight Vest fits children up to 40 pounds, but different sizes (infant, toddler) are available to accommodate different ages and neck openings. (Most airlines require children over 2 to have their own seat.)
