Cool those credit cards – we’ve found a sweet solution for fun and affordable furniture for kids.
Why buy furniture when we can just fold it? This is the premise behind Fold School, a cardboard furniture concept designed by Swiss-based architect Nicola Enrico Stäubli. There’s a twist – it’s handmade by yours truly. We feel some craftiness coming on.
We supply the cardboard, and Nicola provides (free of charge) PDF instructions on how to make a stool, a rocker or a chair. Because we may be a little rusty when it comes to handmade furnishings, we started with the sample sized design first.
We love DIY, especially when it’s great and green. And while it may look like furniture origami, this is no paper swan. These designs are made to be used by our little ones, serving a real purpose. The Fold School site states that folding the cardboard makes it very stable, and that their designs can easily support the weight of an adult. Plus, they look pretty cool. And now we finally have furniture we don’t mind the kids scribbling on.
Best of all, when our kids have worn them out, we can toss them out (in the recycling bin, of course).
