We're finally ready to take our kids back to school shopping. What's hot for fall?
Fashion, style and buying trends for kids is difficult for one main reason, kids grow out of everything so fast! When looking to buy key pieces each season there are a number of factors that parents should look for:
- Is it cute and original or is every other kid at school going to have the same outfit?
- Is it gender specific, or can I pass it down to my next child regardless of gender?
- Will it last only one season, or can it grow with my child?
- What is too much to spend?
There are different answers to these questions depending on the family, but they are great questions to ask before purchasing for a new season.
Some trends that we have been seeing for a while are tattoo-inspired looks for both boys and girls. T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts and leggings adorned with graphics have been everywhere. This fall, new clothing line Ruthless and Toothless brings us graphics taken straight from the artists at Miami Ink!
Colours and patterns for kids continue to mimic the hot trends hitting the runways for adults. One big colour trend (and one of my favourites) is black! It used to be impossible to find anything black for little kids, but over the past several seasons that's changed. From basics to formal wear you can find most anything for kids in black, and although some have strong feelings against kids wearing it, I for one, think every girl needs a little black dress regardless of age.
Plaid is a huge trend in patterns this season, for boys, girls and parents. I love the plaid shirt dress I bought for my daughter and then, when she grows out of it, it will look great with a pair of leggings! A flannel plaid shirt is also a must have for boys, whether worn on its own or paired with a great tee underneath for a layered look. (Note: a matching one for Dad will make a great photo op for this year’s Christmas Card!)
