A quick glance at our BlackBerry calendar has confirmed that (drum roll, please) Christmas is less than… three weeks away! Our to-do list is maxed out, and prepping the ever-important dinner may just turn into adding emergency catering to speed dial.
Ginny Love to the rescue. This professionally trained chef, community volunteer and busy mom knows our pain. Her new cookbook, Simply Love: A Family Cookbook ($21.95) is written just for us. She devotes an entire chapter to cooking up the classic feast-without getting frazzled.
We love that she starts us off two to three weeks in advance (so like… NOW!), giving us the play-by-play on everything we can make ahead.
First off: The gravy, chocolate yule log and cranberry orange sauce, to be frozen or refrigerated.
One week in advance: Steamed puddings, hard sauce, and even a mashed potato dish that can -- believe it or not -- be frozen.
Two days in advance: Stuffing, veggie dishes.
On Christmas Day, we're left with nothing but the turkey to cook-and our sanity intact. We're re-assigning that speed dial to the spa.
