What’s better than a nursing pillow? A nursing pillow that can be used for more than just breastfeeding our babe.
Moms Danica Smith and Amanda Arran of Baby Matters invented just that: the perinatal pillow ($99). Wanting to do it right, they enlisted the help of a pelvic floor physiotherapist. Funky, washable cotton fabric on the outside, 100% polystyrene microbeads on the inside, this cushion will take us from restless smushin’ to painful pushin’ (and taking care of our sore tush-in).
Pre-babe, we use it to get as much sleep as we can (we know we need to stock up). During labour, the pillow assists us with good birth positioning. Post-birth, the padding brings some much-needed comfort when sitting. Then comes the marathon breastfeeding.
Since the pillow can be moulded into any shape, positioning of our wee milk-guzzling machine is easier for both of us. Our babe eventually claims it as his own for tummy time and learning to sit.
And by the time we’ve past those milestones, we are back to using it to try and get as much shuteye as possible. (That will happen, right?)
