It seems that the next generation of kids are learning to play with apps before learning to tie their shoes. Whether it’s for learning, reading, or just exploding some pigs (using some very angry birds!), a few of our editors have found themselves losing their iPads to a child’s clutch. Here are the apps that the little ones love:
My two-year-old son is an Angry Birds champ and has been since he was 18 months old. He's almost entirely self-taught and could play for hours if we let him (which we don’t!). It definitely comes in handy for flights, although my son gets so excited when he's playing that we draw some strange looks (especially each time his birds explode a pig and he lets out a squeal!). – Christina Litz, Senior Director, Digital Production
My six-year-old little lady is very fond of Barbie Fashionistas. It lets her dress and style several different dolls. She’s pretty stylish, so it’s fun to see what she comes up with. She also really likes the OPI nail polish app. It allows you to match nail polish shades against different skin tones. My eight-and-a-half-year-old son loves Angry Birds, but doesn’t seem to play it as much as he used to. He also loves a game called Hockey Fight (which I'm not too thrilled about). But, what they seem to enjoy most is buying and downloading new games and apps...just like kids in candy stores. – Lori Axelrod, General Manager & Director
My Very First App, with illustrations by Eric Carle. A virtual version of Memory with varying degrees of difficulty and format. My almost-three-year-old has been in love with this for nearly a year. It has beautiful pictures, gentle music, so many combinations — the best part about it is that you can see the little one making connections. It really is a feel-good app. – Marina Campbell, Office Manager & Executive Assistant
My three-year-old niece is crazy for Animal Soundboard and Fruit Ninja! Oh, and anything Tinkerbell! – Ashleigh McKenna, Editor & General Manager
We're an app-loving family! At the top of my list: Where’s Waldo is pretty amazing, (Canadian-made) Tickle Tap Apps have a lot of great activities for kids and toddlers, Starfall’s ABC app and Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss are both good for laying the groundwork for reading, and The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore is just really, really awesome. – Jes Watson, SweetHome editor
