iPods are everywhere: In the metro, on the bus, on our 11-year-old niece’s holiday wish list. But one place we won’t be seeing them is in our toddlers’ hands. Even if we’ve got ourselves a first generation model (complete with a first generation version of “Bootylicious”), we think their precious paws best keep away.
So should we be in need of fulfilling their musical desires, the Sweet Pea 3 will do the trick. This MP3 player ($60) is specifically designed for toddlers, with a simple three-button interface. No need for scrolling or song selection. No learning curve here. It’s just play and go. Plus, it’s made from rubber, to withstand even the toughest tantrums, and can hook onto a stroller. The built-in speaker eliminates the need for earphones, which means ear damage is not a concern.
We love that it comes pre-loaded with kid-friendly music and that downloading new tracks is as simple as child’s play. And with a choice of a purple or blue player, they’ll never even notice the parental controls. (As if it needed an added selling feature, it just won the Canadian Toy Testing Council’s Toy of the Year.)
So now they’ll have Barney instead of Beyoncé (though that may hurt our ears).
