We remember the days when rocking really hard didn’t refer to Dr. Karp’s Happiest Baby calming methods, but rather tight pants, unshaven bad boys and tinnitus.
But really, who gets the opportunity to go to shows anymore? Thanks to Rockin’ the Cradle, a series of afternoon rock shows (Pay What You Can) for parents and babies, we do.
Musician and mother Sarah McGaughey formed the idea after realizing most kid-friendly concerts usually featured “kid bands.” With her husband Kyle Glover (bassist and vocalist for the Leonids) and much of her social circle (like Will Kidman of the Constantines) in Toronto indie bands, McGaughey decided to organize a concert series that she could enjoy with her daughter Aurora in tow.
Taking place the third Sunday of each month (the first show is at the Tranzac), we love that the shows feature lower volumes to protect wee ears. But we especially love that we no longer have to try stifling our yawns waiting until our favourite local acts come on. (We’re not the only ones going to bed at 9 p.m. these days, are we?)
Now there’s just the matter of squeezing into those tight pants again…
