The Toy I'm Still Dreaming Of, Twenty Years Later
drop-in centre: toys from childhood canada
(Sep.07.11)
Mia's still holding out for a toy she wanted as a child.
I'll be the first to say I was a very lucky kid. I had (and still have) a very loving family. I went to great schools, enjoyed fun vacations and spent endless days with my friends. I wanted for nothing.
Except one thing.
I always marvel at the fervor children develop for things. Ridiculous things. Awesome things. Stupid things. Just about any thing. But as a kid, when your world is pretty small, those things are all that seem to matter, they're just about the only thing you have to focus on, so you focus on it, and only it.
For me, it was moon shoes. Oh man, what I would have given for a pair of those mini-trampoline shoes. They were out of this world (pun most definitely intended). I must have asked for them for years, but I think they're availability in Canada was spotty.
Forget the fact that my parents actually bought me and my sister an actual trampoline (yeah, I was that kid in the neighbourhood), still, I yearned for those moon shoes.
And now that I've found them online, I'm mighty tempted.
Surely I'm not the only adult still dreaming of the toys they wanted as a kid.
What are you still pining for after all these years?
Thought that was sweet? You'll enjoy:
