When it’s cold outside we seem more likely to overindulgence but that doesn’t mean there aren’t alternatives. So the next time you’re whipping up a pie, cake or anything else that’s baked in an oven, try one of these easy, sugar substitutes. Their teeth (and your waistlines) will thank you.
Applesauce. We’ve learned how easy it is to make, but did you know it can also be used as a substitute for sugar or butter in baking? And some would say everything turns out even more moist and decadent.
Maple Syrup. If you’re looking for something that’s less processed than sugar and actually boasts some minerals, look no further than this pancake-partner. This does have a strong flavour that will add (or take away, depending on your taste) to your baking.
Juices. Did you know you can sub in fruit juice concentrates (from apple to orange and everything in between) for sugar? Talk about adding some interesting flavour to the mix.
Fresh Tip: If your kids indulge around the holidays, make sure they’re still brushing their teeth twice a day. Visit www.aquafresh.ca for some ways to make it fun!
