Why should I consider a naturopath for my child?

As a highly trained, provincially regulated health care provider, the focus of a naturopathic doctor (ND) is the prevention of illness and the optimization of health. Childhood is a pivotal time for the development of a healthy body, mind and spirit. An ND can work with you and your child to make lifestyle choices that will promote normal, healthy development.
When your child does get sick, an ND will see the disease as a process. They will take the time to treat your child individually, 
developing a plan that considers physical, mental, social, emotional, environmental and lifestyle factors. Naturopathic medicine aims to support your child’s natural attempt to heal by addressing the cause of illness in a way that is as gentle and non-invasive as possible, using natural therapies and substances. An ND will work with other health care professionals; they are trained to refer and consult as necessary.
Whether to help strategize solid food introductions, answer questions about vaccinations, or discuss the management of ear infections, a naturopathic doctor can play an integral role on your child’s healthcare team.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph, Leslie graduated from the four-year naturopathic medical program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). She maintains a private practice, and is a faculty member at CCNM providing instruction in women's health, pediatrics and pathology. As the mother of two young children, Leslie has a special interest in family medicine and approaches health with simple strategies. Her goal is to empower clients to make positive shifts in their own lives.
