Making Time

We're busy, and we know you are too. So when it comes to making time for the more pleasurable (and not necessarily needed for survival) things in life, we sometimes push them to the back burner. When Josey Vogels, one of Canada's leading relationship and sex experts, wanted to talk to us, we jumped at the opportunity. We can always use expert advice on that...

How can you still make time for your spouse once you have children?

According to a recent survey, 86% of Canadian couples said they feel more emotionally connected to their partner when they are physically intimate. You can’t underestimate how important it is for the vitality of your relationship to make time for it. Unfortunately, over half the couples surveyed said they don’t have time to connect with their partner, and that work and kids often come before making time for their partner.

Scheduling time with your partner doesn't feel romantic but we have to do it for other things in our lives that are important. We schedule quality time with our kids, plan events for them, make time to do things with them. We need to do the same thing for our spouse, schedule time for each other without the kids. Arrange childcare so you can have a night, even an overnight where you get a hotel room and the focus is on each other.

Josey Vogels pens three nationally syndicated sex and relationship columns, is host to Between You and Me on CBC Radio One, and has written five books. Her fourth book, The Secret Language of Girls, has been published in many languages and has been made into a documentary. You can find more information at www.joseyvogels.com.
