About Jennifer Hamilton
Having learned to write before she could walk (or so goes the story), Jennifer Hamilton has finally found an outlet as our SweetMama Editor. Don’t miss her weekly victories and slip-ups as she raises a son who is almost as obstinate and witty as her; using snuggles, derision and propaganda to survive.
Kids Cook Cookies to Care

Anyone who knows me knows that I love to bake. It’s kind of a sickness, really.
I bake in the morning sometimes (quickly, a batch of muffins, when there’s nothing to munch on.)
I bake in the afternoon (biscuits, pizza dough, some quick crackers perhaps.)
I bake in the evening and sometimes even in the middle of the night (cookies, cupcakes; sweet treats to sooth the savage mom-beast that can’t sleep.)
It’s no surprise then that I would find a charity that focuses on baking as its primary means to an end, sort of irresistible.
The Kids Cook Cookies to Care initiative is a very interesting charity. To get started, one makes a donation to the Community Meal program and Kids Cook Cookies sends you a kit with an ethnic cookie recipe from one of their celebrity chefs (yields two dozen cookies) and some cultural information about the traditions of the country from which the recipe originates. The kit also includes a list of suggested community centres that you can deliver your cookies to in the GTA

The Kids Cook Cookies to Care Kit will let a family cook and care for others in need as well as learn something new about different holiday customs, a win-win situation for anyone who lives in a country as wildly diverse as Canada.
