About Jennifer Hamilton
Having learned to write before she could walk (or so goes the story), Jennifer Hamilton has finally found an outlet as our SweetMama Editor. Don’t miss her weekly victories and slip-ups as she raises a son who is almost as obstinate and witty as her; using snuggles, derision and propaganda to survive.
The above dad-versus-toddler battle of wits is quickly becoming a viral phenomenon, with more than 3 million YouTube views in less than two weeks.
I have, on many occasions, asked my son which parent he loves more. His dad does it too. We only ask it in jest and know he loves both of us unrelentingly, but sometimes, in the moment, it is a fun and interesting question to ask.
This father did the same thing and even tried a few sneaky tactics to get the answer he wanted out of his toddler, but to no avail. This girl isn’t easily fooled.
Of course my son hates to answer the question. But, as is our right as parents, we do sometimes enjoy bugging him.
He has a rehearsed and excellent response to the torture inflicted upon him by his parents. If you ask my 5 year old who he loves most in the world, he will tell you that he loves us equally (because it’s “not fair” otherwise – 5 year olds are big on fairness). Sometimes he’ll even tell us that he loves everyone (aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents) the exact same amount because that is what is fair to him.
Of course, I know he loves me the most. But don’t tell his father.
