David Beckam – Just Like Us

Apparently David Beckham is just like the rest of us, in terms of his parenting skills, at any rate. He is just as likely to stick up for his seven-year-old on the soccer field as any of us are, possibly more so.
This article is all about how wrong it was that Beckham stood up for his son and told the ref his call was unfair. It talks about how the referees in kids soccer are hard done by and are abused by parents and coaches.
Personally, I see Beckam's point. His kid is seven years old (not to be confused with his newborn who is named "Seven"). Honestly, who sends a seven-year-old off the soccer field?
I know that if the ref decided my son couldn't play all of a sudden, I would have done the exact same thing. In the moment, I would have been flabbergasted that the ref pulled my kid, and definitely would have said so.
I think that — sometimes — refs in kids sports have a bit of a god complex. Perhaps it's just that they tend to be less experienced than refs in adult soccer. Maybe they're trying to teach kids lessons before they get to the point where they're being red carded all the time.
What do you think? Did Becks do the right thing? Is David Beckham a regular parent, just like us?
Oh, and just a side note, but you might get more moms out to kids soccer games if this was what soccer dads looked like:
